Give

I encourage everyone who is able to give time, money, or material goods to causes that promote LGBTQ+, class, racial, gender, and environmental justice. Some of my favorite organizations that I have supported are listed below

All-Options Pregnancy Resource Center

This Bloomington, Indiana based organization supports people who are pregnant. They help fund people to travel to states where abortion is legal and provide confidential, judgment free chat lines and education about all options- abortion, parenting, adoption, and spiritual strife related to pregnancy.

Anera (American Near East Refugee Aid)

This organization provides lifesaving aid to people and refugees living in Palestine, Jordan, and Lebannon who have experienced displacement, bombing, and other kinds of state-sanctioned violence.

Bloomington Animal Shelter

I adopted both of my precious cats from this organization. This animal shelter helps keep families and their pets together and rehomes strays. They are always looking for monetary donations, foster homes, and item donations as listed on their website!

Directly Support Trans People

There are scads of trans people who need direct monetary donations to support housing, living, and medical costs. Give directly to trans people via platforms like venmo or gofundme.

Exotic Feline Rescue Center

A recent find that has brought me a lot of joy! This non-profit rescues exotic, wild, and large cats (and cat-adjacent animals, like foxes) that have been abused, abandoned, or are unable to reside in zoos or the wild. If you are in Indiana, definitely check them out.

Grist Climate News

With the increasingly changing climate, there is no shortage of valuable climate-justice minded organizations to support. I highlight this one due to their independent newsroom and climate reporting efforts.

Meals on Wheels

My father has been working with this organization for decades, and I used to go on delivery rides with him growing up! Help people who cannnot shop for and prepare their own meals access nutrition and valuable in-person relationships.

National Bail Out Fund

Every Mother’s Day, I participate in their #FreeBlackMamas campaign. This organization works to abolish the prision-industrial complex and to ensure women and caregivers are not locked up simply because they cannot afford to pay bail.

Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA)

This Charlottesville, VA organization provides education and outreach programming to prevent sexual violence, in addition to working directly with helping survivors process their experiences. They also provided me my first job post-graduation!
